Coasters Captain Bradley Barnes spoke to Ben Yaffe after the 2-2 home draw with Tamworth on Saturday.

With Fylde taking the lead twice in the game today, it must feel like two points lost instead of one point gained?

Yeah it does. Their second goal is a killer really as it comes from our corner and they break away down the pitch and manage to score quite easily. We played some good stuff at times but our quality on the ball needed to be better in stages.

It must be good to see your fellow Coaster Matt Blinkhorn back on the scoresheet recently?

It’s about time Blinks started scoring again after so long! It’s probably a confidence thing with Blinks and of course he was out injured for a fair bit of last season but we all know what he is capable of. He’s old and he’s done it for years. He’s starting to look a bit old now as well. He’ll score a few goals for us this year hopefully and he’s great in the air as he’s shown today.

How would you rate your performance this afternoon?

Well I played at the back which I don’t normally do so it was tough but I enjoyed it. I thought I’ve done alright today really, I had to fill in for the injuries and I don’t mind playing there if asked. I wouldn’t mind playing up front if Chally would let me, but playing at the back is probably more realistic. When the defenders who are out injured come back I’m sure I’ll go back into midfield. I’m not exactly the tallest, but I can do a job.

We play FC United on Tuesday evening, are you looking forward to the challenge?

It’s just another game really. All the games in this league are tough games so it doesn’t really matter who we play in the next game or the game after that, our objective is to go and win those games.

How have you assessed The Coasters start to the season compared to the start of last season?

We had a few dodgy results last season but we played better than we are doing now. That might be down to injuries this season as we do have three or four key players out injured right now, and when we have everyone back, we can look to dominate. You can see we have the players at the club who can do the job asked of them, it’s just about finding consistency.

Have you got any personal targets for the season?

I want to score twenty-five goals! No, in all honesty we just want to get promoted one way or another as a team. I don’t set myself goal targets or anything like that, I just want to play well in every game and give my best. I just go with the flow really. It would be nice to be top of the league, but over time we’ll be up there. The feeling in the dressing room is different because we’ve not really put together an amazing run yet where as in previous seasons we have done. If you win, everyone is happy and if you don’t win then nobody is happy really and we just need to get consistent with our results.
