Coasters striker Matt Blinkhorn spoke to Ben Yaffe after the 2-2 home draw with Tamworth on Saturday. Blinks was understandably delighted to score in both of his previous two matches.

You scored your second goal in as many games today against Tamworth. What did you think of the overall performance from the lads today?

We’re not too happy to be honest. There was a spell in the game where we could have gone two or three nil up and we should have taken our chances then. We were a bit sloppy with conceding our goals, especially the second one. We played well in stages but we need to find that level of consistency throughout a game like we had last season.

Do you think it’s one point gained, or two points dropped this afternoon?

Good question. It feels like two points dropped but we’re still third in the table at the moment so that’s still quite good. We all know the aim for the season and we want to work towards that, so we’ll have to go and beat FC United midweek to make sure that the draw today was a good point and not a bad one.

You must have thought that everything was going well after your header found the back of the net to give the Coasters the lead for the second time in the match?

Yeah it was good to score again and I’m pleased about that. All you can do as a striker is score goals and feed other players as much as you can. It wasn’t great that we conceded pretty much straight after I scored so my goal doesn’t really count for too much but it’s always a good feeling when you put the ball in the net. A draw was probably a fair result, they played some good stuff and we did too at times.

How has your back held up so far this season? Are you fully fit and able to play two games in a week?

It’s doing fine at the moment, touch wood. The last year or so has been about recovery and making myself stronger and thankfully it’s paying off now. We’ll see how I am on Monday in regards to the FC United game on Tuesday night, but I’m hopeful that I can play two games in a week, of course.

You didn’t manage to score for sixteen months, but you’ve bagged two in two recently. How pleasing is that for you?

Thanks for reminding me about the length of time! Of course it’s nice to score, it’s what I love doing. Obviously I was out injured a lot of last season so couldn’t really force my way into the team, but I’ve managed to come back this season and force my way in and hopefully I’ll get to keep playing and scoring as many as possible. It’s all about the team though really. As long as we win, I’m not too bothered about scoring. If we win and I score, then I’ll go home happy.
