Congratulations to former Coaster Josh Kay on making his first team debut for Barnsley at the weekend.

The young midfielder came through our college academy programme and broke into the first team squad before signing professional terms with Barnsley in February.

Kay was named in the starting line up for the Tykes’ Championship clash against Bristol City on Saturday and played the full game in front of a 12,000 crowd as Barnsley netted a late equaliser to earn a 2-2 draw.

Barnsley head coach Paul Heckingbottom said: “It would have been a travesty if we hadn’t got anything out of the game, but when you’ve been behind and you score a late goal, you’re satisfied with a point.

“The character of the lads was fantastic and, from the first minute to the last, they were great. Even in the build-up, helping Josh Kay through his debut.”
