AFC Fylde will play in the National League North next season, a division the Coasters were promoted from as champions in the 2016/17 season.

We take a look at next season’s opponents, as Jim Bentley and his side look to secure promotion back to the National League.

Our first team ‘under review’, is Chester FC.

Nickname(s):

The Blues, The Seals, City.

Ground:

Deva Stadium, 6,500 (4,170 seated).

2019/20 League Position:

Chester finished 6th when the final table was announced, following the points per game decision. It had been an impressive season at the Deva Stadium, which saw the Cheshire side looking to continue their climb back towards the football league. Disappointingly for them, they lost to eventual play-off winners Altrincham, at the quarter-final / eliminator stages.

Star Player 19/20:

Akwasi Asante was a constant threat and torment for opposition defences throughout the season, netting 18 league goals when the season was cut short, and tipped by many to have scored plenty more if it had resumed.

Unfortunately for The Blues, Asante decided to head for pastures new this summer and is now playing for Gloucester City.

Manager(s):

Anthony Johnson & Bernard Morley are well known for their spell with Salford City. The energetic and passionate joint-pairing will always look to get their teams up the top end of the table, fighting for promotion.

Last Played:

There are only three matches on record between the teams, all of which have ended in a draw and again, all of which were during the 2017/18 season. Two were in the National League and the other was in the FA Trophy.

Home: AFC Fylde 1-1 Chester, Tuesday 9th January 2018.

Away: Chester 1-1 AFC Fylde, Tuesday 8th August, 2017.
