AFC Fylde boss Dave Challinor heaped praise on his side after the stunning victory over Boston United.

The Coasters ran out 9-2 winners to maintain their four-point lead at the top of the National League North and Challinor was understandably delighted.

“It’s a win first and foremost and a very comprehensive one. It’s a pleasing win as well because we have the capability of doing that. As a performance, from minute one really, we asked them to go out and try and win the game early and start with a real tempo. We did that.

“We could have scored three goals before we conceded but we didn’t test the goalkeeper. We conceded a sloppy goal but fortunately through good play got straight back into it. Then we’re on the front foot.

“Going into injury time in the first half 4-1 up, they were potentially still in the game. To score the two goals in injury time at the end of the first half really put the game to bed. Then it’s about us answering questions about ourselves really, about our attitude and our ruthlessness.

“Between the first five to ten minutes of the second half, I thought we were sloppy. Aside from that we were fantastic.

“It was important that we started the game well and were on the front foot so if the conditions became slightly unplayable towards the end, we were in a position to not take chances.”
