AFC Fylde manager Dave Challinor poured praise on his side after they progressed to the quarter-finals of the Lancashire Senior Cup.

Challinor named a much changed side for the tie against Bolton Wanderers, with goals from Matt Blinkhorn (2) and Henry Jones sealing a 3-1 victory at the County Ground.

Challinor said: “It was a really good work out for us because every single one of the lads out there needed minutes.

“These types of game are all about attitude for me and they all impressed me with their work ethic.

“They will take a lot from the game. We have to make two changes this weekend due to suspensions and I wanted them to make the decisions difficult for me.

“I wanted performances that would make people hard to leave out and I can have no complaints – they were brilliant.

“It was a great pitch to play on, which helped, and it was a very competitive game.

“The result wasn’t the be all and end all but obviously winning is a good habit to get into, regardless of the game.

“The competition doesn’t rank highly in our priorities this season if I’m honest, but we had ten players there that were desperate for some time on the pitch and I couldn’t have asked for any more from the evening.”
