AFC Fylde star Stephen Crainey was delighted to be back in the side against North Ferriby United on Saturday.

The former Blackpool defender had lost his place in the team recently to fellow full-back Adam Sumner but was called upon at the weekend and now hopes to keep his place.

“It was good to be back involved,” said Crainey. “I’ve been working hard in training and biding my time and it’s paid off. It’s unfortunate for Adam to pick up an injury, but that’s why we have a decent sized squad. Hopefully I can keep playing well and make it a good competition for the left back spot.

Fylde are now without a win in three and Crainey is keen to get a play-off spot sealed as soon as possible.

“We just needed to cement our position in the play-offs first and we want to do that sooner rather than later. I think we’ve got a good team here and I think we’ll be able to do that soon.

“The match was tough and we were obviously disappointed to come away empty handed.

“They’ve got the big lad Denton up top and I think we struggled to deal with him at times. However, I think we created some good chances and on another day we could have won the game.

“I definitely see myself playing on past this season. I still feel really fit so I’ll keep playing as long as my old legs tell me I can.”
