THIS main pitch has been the focus at Mill Farm this week with the contractors building up the level of what will become AFC Fylde’s first team playing surface.

With the first ball set to be kicked in around 12 months’ time, the surface area is being stripped back and levelled ready for the drainage and sprinkler systems to be installed. Pitch contractor Danvic’s first task has been to build up and roll the pitch area before the building of the main stadium begins. (See main picture.)

Managing Director of Danvic, Richard Sharrock said: “The sub-base and foundation is now in place and we now have time for everything to settle.

“The structural work should be in place and completed by early 2016 allowing the seeding process to begin.

“After that, it is down to Mother Nature to take her course and allow the pitch to grow.”

Around the rest of the Mill Farm site, certain areas are being rotavated which will provide more top soil for the main pitch.

Drainage work continues on the main spine road (pictured above) which will run around the complex ahead of a link up with the Wesham roundabout.

The workforce have also been installing the new public footpath which was part of the agreement we had to make with the planners before planning permission was granted.

The old public footpath was only about a metre wide and meandered across rough pasture land. However the new “super foot path” is over two metres wide and fully tarmaced. At a cost of £80,000 it shows the commitment Mill Farm owners have to ensure the very best of everything for everybody.
