Stockport Georgians 3 – 2 Academy

Goals : James Crook 2

Sunday saw us take part in yet another cup game cup, this time away at Stockport Georgians in the Open cup. We have played a number of cup games lately and with a much changed squad due to injury and work commitments we traveled away still with high hopes of progressing.

The game started with us in full control, dominating in all areas and we opened the scoring through excellent football seeing Freddie Masons pin point through ball for James Crook to slot home. Minutes later after another excellent free flowing move Kahiel crossed the ball for James to run on to and volley home. This saw us in full control but with minutes before the half ended we conceded a penalty with they scored to make it 2-1.

The second half was much the same with the Academy in full control but couldn’t put the game to bed. We saw numerous chances go by and we payed the full price with 30 seconds of madness. We conceded a sloppy goal and from the resulting centre conceded seconds after.

In a game we dominated we unluckily came away losing. As much as the result was frustrating the overall play and football was excellent. We now move forward and play out last 16 Lancashire Cup v St Helens U18’s at Preston College on the 9th November.

The Academy also have an FA Youth Cup First Round tie at home to Newcastle Benfield on Monday night.
