AFC Fylde U16s suffered defeat in the Syndicate Trust Youth Cup Final at the hands of Ladybridge U18s last night.

The Coasters went down 6-0 to a strong Ladybridge side two years their senior at The Sir Tom Finney Stadium, Bamber Bridge FC.

Manager Mark Sevens was proud of his young side despite the result: “We came up against an extremely strong Ladybridge outfit and the two year age gap was just a step too far for our boys in the end.

“We conceded two early goals, including a penalty, and after that we were chasing the game. It was 3-0 at half-time but our boys never gave in and despite a battling second half performance, the opposition went on to finish the game as 6-0 winners. However, we now return to league action and with ten games to go we’re still in with a chance of honours.”

The Coasters currently sit on top of youth division blue having won their previous 11 games on the trot and they have some serious firepower in Owen Watkinson who has scored 31 goals and Samuel Oldfield who has chipped in with 20.
