AFC Fylde outplayed, outclassed and outscored their Blue Square North opponents to secure their place in the FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round for the first time in the club’s history in October 2012.

A brace from Michael Barnes and one each for Booth and Richie Allen secured a memorable win for the Coasters despite the visitors pulling back to within one goal early in the second half.

The attacking quintet of Booth, Barnes, Allen, Dorney, and Dean caused the Moors problems all day long and the home side were a goal up after just 12 minutes when Booth nodded past goalkeeper Jasbir Singh. That was the start of an intense period of pressure from the Coasters and had it not been for Singh’s excellent performance between the sticks it could have been a lot worse for the visitors.

Barnes, Matty Hughes and Dorney all had chances to extend Fylde’s lead but weren’t successful, although Fylde had doubled their lead before the half our thanks to Barnes’ sixth goal in as many games. Barnes was then played in by a great through ball and managed to beat Sing to the ball on the edge of the box but his header was too weak and the chasing defenders cleared the danger.

The visitors first foray towards the Fylde box for almost half an hour resulted in their only meaningful chance of the half but Omar Bogle’s shot was deflected for a corner.Solihulls’ Michael Blackwood was sent off in the dying minutes of the half for bringing down Barnes when he was through on goal but the score remained unchanged until after the break.

It was the Moors who scored next though when Ryan Beswick scored a sublime free kick to renew hopes of a comeback in the 58th minute. But, six minutes later Barnes had got his second blasting the ball past Singh from the edge of the box after some great build up play from the Coasters.

Allen wrapped up the win on 68 minutes with Fylde’s fourth, capping off a great performance from himself, heading in a fantastic cross from Barnes. Substitute striker Adam Farrell tried his luck fourteen minutes from time but the keeper smothered the ball well to deny him a goal.
