More children than ever before are benefiting from an innovative sports programme with the AFC Fylde Community Foundation.

The Sports Academy is delivered by the Foundation during school half-terms and the most recent saw a record number of youngsters signing up for the sessions.

The Foundation works with, and is supported by, the Frank Whittle Partnership enabling it to provide the Sports Academy for children across the Fylde Coast as well as further afield.

Pupils from Kirkham and Wesham Primary School were the most recent enthusiastic recruits to the Academy taking numbers to a record high.

The Academy, which is delivered in the form of a week long camp, is open to boys and girls aged between 5-12 years of age. The mission of the Foundation is to get as many young children as possible involved in multi-sports and physical activity during school holidays.

The camps provide an all-inclusive, fun- packed experience for children of all abilities and are proving so successful they are enjoying a steady increase in numbers. During the most recent half-term holiday the Foundation reached a new personal best with more than 35 children attending each day at Kirkham and Wesham Primary School.

Since the Academy launched, the Foundation has seen dozens of children come through the doors and leave with new found confidence and friends which, according to Foundation Director Tom Hutton, acts as a massive incentive for his enthusiastic and committed team.

Tom said: “It is great when the team are rewarded with smiles all around at the end of a  fun-filled day of physical activity. The Sports Camps are fantastic and all of my staff look forward to getting involved in them just as much as the children.

“However, they are only possible because of the strong partnership we have with the Frank Whittle Partnership Group who continue to support and help with our camps. Without such generosity we would not be able to include and involve so many children and we are really grateful for their continued backing.”
