Boreham Wood 0 – 2 AFC Fylde
Taylor 19’, Bradley 90’
Attendance: 501 (51)
AFC Fylde got back to winning ways in the Manarama National League, as goals from Andy Taylor and Dan Bradley secured three points.
It was an electric start to affairs, with the home side flying out of the traps – Tshimanga showing why he’s one of the most feared strikers in the division so far.
The Coasters weathered the early pressure though, and nearly had an early lead when Jordan Williams low cross picked out Kosylo at the back post.
Kosylo couldn’t steer it beyond Ashmore though, and Haughton failed to fire the loose ball home, and the chance was soon gone.
This gave the Coasters confidence, and on 19 minutes, Fylde took the lead through an unlikely source.
The ball dropped to left-back Andy Taylor outside of the box, who took a touch, before thundering a half-volley into the top right hand corner – clattering off of the underside of the crossbar, giving Ashmore no chance.
Confidence flowed through the Coasters after this, and some neat passing play followed, as they looked to add another.
Boreham Wood had a big chance to level going into the break, as Tshimanga was played through one-on-one.
In a massive moment for the game, defender Alex Whitmore was poised to make a perfectly timed tackle in the penalty box, denying a certain goal.
Much like the first half, Boreham Wood started strongly, and through the lively duo of Tshimanga and Thomas, looked to draw level.
Fylde were made to defend, but did so calmly, with Byrne and Whitmore leading the back four brilliantly.
The Coasters grew back into the game, however, and were almost gifted a goal when Nathan Ashmore played it straight to Danny Rowe – but he couldn’t make the most of it.
Not learning his lesson though, just five minutes later Ashmore had done it again – with Kosylo and Rowe flying in to pick it up.
Rowe tried to fashion the chance and double the Coasters lead, but he hesitated a bit too long, and the Wood defence were able to clear.
Ashmore was soon at the heart of the game again, but this time in a positive sense – as he made a fantastic diving save to deny Nick Haughton’s curling effort from 25 yards.
A double change soon followed, with Dan Bradley and Mark Yeates coming on to replace Nick Haughton and Matty Kosylo.
One of these substitutes was to make the decisive impact, as Dan Bradley’s marauding run on the right-hand side paid dividends.
After looking to play the ball across to Williams, Ashmore pushed the ball back into the box, and having followed it up, Bradley was there to slot it home, and give the Coasters their second win on the road this season.
