AFC Fylde vs Dover Athletic

Vanarama National League

AFC Fylde go head-to-head with fellow promotion hopefuls Dover Athletic tomorrow as the play-off battle hots up!

The Coasters have suffered consecutive defeats in the league for the first time in two years over the past week and will be desperate to leap-frog Dover with three points at Mill Farm.

A single-goal home defeat against Leyton Orient last weekend was followed up with a disappointing away defeat at basement club Guiseley on Tuesday night.

The double-defeat has seen Dave Challinor’s side drop out of the play-offs and Dover wasted no time stealing into seventh place.

Fylde now trail the Whites by two points, however Chris Kinnear’s side also have a game in hand.

Bromley, who sit sandwiched between Dover and ourselves, are in FA Trophy action tomorrow and have therefore postponed their scheduled league clash against Barrow.

Whilst there is still plenty of time for a shake up, as it stands it appears four clubs will be battling it out for the final play-off position – Dover (54), Bromley (52), AFC Fylde (52) and Ebbsfleet United (52).

Dover have had a mixed campaign after finishing in the play-offs last season. They started like a house on fire, winning three of their first four games and leading the pack. However, they have dropped off over the last few weeks and lost three on the bounce before Tuesday’s 1-0 victory over Dagenham & Redbridge.

Frontman Ryan Bird could be the one-to-watch for the visitors after plundering 13 National League goals so far this season following a summer switch from Newport County.

Coasters striker Rowe remains the league’s top scorer with 18 however his two-game ‘drought’ has coincided with Fylde’s first two-game goalless streak since 2014.

Fylde enjoyed one of the results of the season away at then second-placed Dover back in November as Danny Rowe netted late on in a stubborn 1-0 win on the south coast.
