AFC Fylde embark on the start of an exciting journey this weekend as the 2017/18 National League season kicks off!

The Coasters earned their place in the fifth tier of English football after a fantastic season saw them crowned champions of the National League North.

Fylde have enjoyed a productive pre-season schedule against some tough opposition and more than matched their illustrious opponents at times.

The warm-up matches began at Marine in early July when a Danny Rowe brace helped the Coasters to a comfortable 5-0 victory.

Rochdale visited Mill Farm four days later and Fylde gave an excellent account of themselves against their League One opposition, slipping to a narrow 1-0 defeat.

Championship side Bolton Wanderers were the next to make a trip to the Fylde Coast, however they had to settle for a goalless draw after a defensive masterclass from the Coasters.

A 2-1 victory over League Two outfit Morecambe was certainly a highlight of the summer, before Dave Challinor’s side signed off from pre-season with a 1-1 draw at Curzon Ashton.

Eight new faces will be hoping to make their competitive debut for the club this weekend. Challinor will have a tough decision between current Number One Rhys Taylor and new man Jay Lynch for the goalkeeper jersey.

Lynch has been joined by defenders Zaine Francis-Angol, Jordan Tunnicliffe, Josh Ezewele and Simon Grand, midfielders Lewis Montrose and Henry Jones and frontman Jack Muldoon over the summer.

Boreham Wood, who won promotion to the National League via the Play-Offs in 2014-15, narrowly missed out on a top ten finish last season and have been touted as a surprise package this time around.

Last season’s National League goal-getting duo Ricky Miller and Christian Doidge bagged 67 goals between them, however they will both feature in the Football League this season for Peterborough and Forest Green respectively and Coasters 47-goal hitman Danny Rowe will be aiming to fill the void.
