The AFC Fylde Community Foundation has been delivering free health exercises and activities to elder members of the local community for the last two years.

Health and Wellbeing manager Michael Brown has been delivering the free sessions – called 50+ – since the programme started in early 2014.

Michael believes the sessions have been extremely beneficial to the participants and said: “It’s great to see so many people turn up on a regular basis. It’s a great opportunity for people to keep active and make friends and whilst the sessions are light, they also get the blood pumping. It’s important that we get the message out to the local community and get people who are above the age of 50 to come to our sessions.”

Maggie, 52, has been attending the sessions for almost two years and she was full of praise for the Foundation: “Michael caters to everyone’s individual health needs. We go through a number of exercises which targets different body parts and keeps us all active.

“He also helps us individually and lets us know which activities to sit out at times. For example, I have had problems with my shoulders so whenever we start doing shoulder exercises like side raises, Michael tells me it may be better to sit out this particular exercise which is very helpful.”

The sessions are held twice a week:

Tuesday – St Cuthberts Church Hall Lytham 10am-11am

Friday – St Annes Parish Rooms, Headroomgate Road St Annes 10am-11am
