Chris Park caught up with goal scorer Sam Finley after the victory over FC United to get his views on that performance and his ambitions for the rest of the season.

So it was your third goal of the season for Fylde tonight and a comfortable win in the end wasn’t it?

Yeah, it helped with the keeper getting sent off and then their skipper went off injured so we were playing against nine men for the last ten or 15 minutes which helped.  But I thought we started off well.  Chally said we’ve got to prove to ourselves the fans and the club with the draw on Saturday not being the best result, so we’ve got to go out there and prove it and that score doesn’t look like a bad result now.  So I thought we started well and progressed through the game very well.

Do you think that performance was one of the best of the season for the side?

Yeah it was.  I don’t think we’ve performed well to be honest this season.  I think most of the lads will agree as well that we haven’t been playing to the best of our abilities but yes it was the best performance so far.

Obviously it helped with the sending off as well and that changed the game as before then it looked like FC United could get something didn’t it?

Yes they had a few chances before then when they hit the bar then we went up the other end and hit the bar straight after them but they had a few chances and caused us a few problems getting in behind and it was good to see off the game.  I thought it was penalty to be honest (for Fylde’s second goal) but it wasn’t it was a free kick instead.

And how does that set you up for the weekend now.  We have Boston away, it’s a long trip?

Yep, we’re travelling down on Friday and staying over so we’re going to be in Thursday to do a bit of a light session before going down on Friday which is quality to be fair as it’s all done properly and there’ll be no excuses come Saturday.

Then for the rest of the season the main aim for the club is to gain promotion.  Is that your ambition as well?

Exactly, win the league so we don’t have to go into the lottery of the Play-offs.  I don’t want to go into the Play-offs I want to finish first and hopefully go full time next season.
