AFC Fylde is delighted to announce that midfielder Josh Kay has signed for the Club following his departure from Sky Bet League Two Side Barrow AFC.

Josh becomes the Coasters’ sixth summer addition and links up with Adam Murray’s side ahead of Chesterfield’s visit to Mill Farm.

Returning to the Fylde Coast and Mill Farm, Josh began his career with Squires Gate before joining the AFC Fylde Academy and making one first-team appearance in 2015.

Barnsley snapped the youngster up for an undisclosed fee in the New Year following his breakthrough, where he featured once for the League One side.

It was from Oakwell where Josh signed for Chesterfield on a short-term deal in 2018 ahead of a move to Barrow AFC later that year – a place that saw the 26-year-old have his best spell.

Josh was a key member of the Bluebirds side that earned promotion to League Two in 2020 and now adds essential experience to the Coasters side for the 2023/24 season and beyond.

After Josh signed on the dotted line, Director of Football Chris Beech said: “Now that the season is upon us, it’s important that we have competition in all positions.

“Building a competitive squad to attack the National League has presented many challenges, and while we establish a squad of 22 players to compete and support each other, we needed to recognise key skills that will make us stronger as a team.

“With his direct running style and attacking intent, Josh will provide us with another option in forward positions.

“After being promoted from this league with Barrow and playing most of his football in League Two, he will give our squad an uplift for sure.

“Josh is quick, robust and has the technical capability to play with both feet, enabling many options for Adam and the coaching staff in preparation for our forthcoming opponents.

“I appreciate while we work hard to support the club with more value to invested costs, it would be remiss of me not to thank the Chairman for his support.

“I would like to also thank Josh’s agent Andrew McGregor for his understanding of his client’s needs and his professionalism in enabling the deal to conclude.

“I’m sure Josh will endear himself, both to his teammates and our fans, and I ask you Coasters to join me in wishing both Josh and the lads the best of luck.”

After signing for the Coasters, Josh said: “I’m delighted to be here and get the deal done. I’ve been at Barrow for five years now, and I just fancied a new challenge, and I feel like Fylde’s the right place for that challenge.”

Welcome to AFC Fylde, Josh!

Josh will adopt the number 14 shirt during his time at Mill Farm.
