Match Report

Fylde won 4-3 on penalties (Doodson Sport Cup Semi Final)

The Coasters won through to their second cup final of the season courtesy of a penalty shoot out victory over fellow Evo-Stik Premier Division side Frickley Athletic on Tuesday night.

Due to a severe accident on the M62 earlier in the afternoon, the squad didn’t actually arrive at the ground until ten past eight, 25 minutes after the scheduled kick off time, meaning kick off was put back an hour to 8:45pm

It wasn’t the best of games to watch but Fylde had the better of the chances which weren’t taken.

Frickley pushed for a winner themselves late on but the game finished goalless after 90 minutes and went straight to penalties.

The home saw their first effort saved by Ben Hinchliffe whilst Adam Sumner, Danny Lloyd, Luke Denson and then Hinchliffe himself scored all four of Fylde’s penalties as Frickley missed their last meaning The Coasters will go through to meet the winners of Carlton Town or Skelmersdale United in next month’s Final.

Fylde boss Dave Challinor named a number of changes to the side that beat Rushall Olympic on Saturday but despite the set-back they came out on top to reach the Doodson Sport League Cup Final at Stockport County’s Edgeley Park Stadium next month.

The unbeaten run now stretches to 14 games in all competitions and despite the frustrating journey to tonight’s game, spirits will be high ahead of an even longer trip to Stamford on Saturday.

AFC Fylde: Hinchliffe, Gregory (Sumner 75), Denson, Langley, Russell (C), C. Hughes, M. Barnes, Winter, Lloyd, Mullen (B. Barnes 79), Allen (Blinkhorn 75); Subs not used: Hankin, Booth.
