Attacking midfielder arrives on loan from Salford City.

We are delighted to announce that attack-minded midfielder, Luke Burgess has joined AFC Fylde on a loan deal until January from Sky Bet League Two side, Salford City.

The 21-year-old links back up with a familiar face in Nick Chadwick [AFC Fylde Assistant Manager], with whom he worked closely with in the academy at Wigan. During his time with the Latics, Burgess was an exciting prospect who showed versatility, desire and ability which was recognised with spells in the first team set-up.

Loan moves with Barrow AFC and local rivals Chorley allowed Burgess to get much needed game time under his belt, before catching the attention of current club Salford where he made a permanent move in 2019.

As a player, Burgess brings a fresh and energetic approach to all areas of the midfield. He can comfortably use both feet, has a turn of pace to go out wide when required, a clear eye for goals and also has the stature to bring physicality when required to do so.

Speaking to afcfylde.co.uk after joining the Coasters, Burgess said: “Everything about the club seems great. It’s a great project. The club shouldn’t be at this level and definitely doesn’t want to be. I spoke with the Gaffer and with Nick who made me want to be here.

“We’ve been back in at Salford for quite a while so I feel quite fit already. This move has been on the cards for a bit of time so it is great to now finally get it done and I am looking forward to playing for AFC Fylde.”

After signing a player he has admired and known about for a while, Jim Bentley told us: “Luke is highly regarded and is an exciting talent. Nick Chadwick worked with him at Wigan and rates him very highly.

“He has been doing well at Salford and I am pleased they have let us have him on loan. He has already had a successful loan move at Barrow in the past which will help him and I am sure he will do well for AFC Fylde.”
