AFC Fylde have secured a loan deal to bring former Coasters youngster Josh Kay back to the club.

The 20-year-old midfielder left Fylde a year ago to join Championship club Barnsley, making his first-team debut for the Tykes in October in a 2-2 draw against Bristol City.

Kay came through our college academy programme and spent two seasons with Squires Gate before breaking into the Coasters squad. He made one start for the club in a 2-0 victory over Warrington Town in the FA Trophy and will now remain with the club until the end of the season.

Manager Dave Challinor was pleased to bolster his ranks after losing Macauley Wilson to injury this week: “We have brought Josh back in because he gives us more options and quality. He can play at full-back, in a wide area or in the middle of the park which is a big boost.

“He knows us well and importantly we know him so it isn’t really a risk at this stage of the season. We know exactly what we are getting and he has good character. He trained with us today and looked sharp so I’m sure he will be another good addition.

“I’m sure he has come on in leaps and bounds having trained with a Championship over the last 12 months and we are pleased to see him back.”
