Fylde Ladies have announced Charlotte Farrell as captain for the new season.

The ladies team have joined us this summer from Preston North End and Farrell spoke of her excitement ahead of a new season: “I am delighted to have signed for Fylde for the upcoming season. We had a bitterly disappointing end to last season with Preston but I am now very much looking forward to using that and putting the situation right this year with Fylde.

“The club have made it clear that they are prepared to back the ladies team 100% and having the opportunity to make full use of the great facilities on offer at Mill Farm shows this. Hopefully we can make some quality signings to help strengthen and bolster what is already a very competent squad and push us towards the ultimate goal of reaching the Womens Super League 2.

“It is an absolute honour to be asked to be first team captain, hopefully I can lead the team to success. These are very exciting times for AFC Fylde as a whole and they have the foundations to achieve the targets they have set themselves as a club. I am very excited to be a part of that and cannot wait to get started.”

Ladies first team manager Luke Swindlehurst said: “I’m very pleased that Charlotte has accepted the captaincy as she is a natural leader on the pitch. I’m sure she will have a big impact this season on and off the field. Her character and experience along with a desire to win will make her an excellent captain. She puts her body on the line where others wouldn’t and that’s the sign of a true leader.”
