Match Report

These two sides could not be separated for the second time in ten days playing out another exhilarating 0-0 draw.

Richie Allen had the best chance of the first half but Danny Hurst had a comfortable save from his shot before Andy Owen had a header cleared off the line by Danny Lloyd.

The second half was edged by the home side but for a final five minutes spell where Danny Rowe was inches away from scoring a winner against his former club.

It was another bright start for The Coasters and they had the earliest chances of the game.  Lloyd aimed a cross towards Richie Allen at the back post but Danny Hurst was able to cut it out and within seconds Michael Potts shot a weak strike wide from 20 yards.

Neither Josh Wilson nor Richie Allen could find the target from curling efforts outside the box all before the 15 minute mark and Allen should have done better with a free kick on the edge of County’s box on 18 minutes but could only fire it straight at Hurst.

However the home side, buoyed by the partisan home support, grew into the game late in the half and were unlucky not to find the back of the net on more than one occasion.

A poor free kick from Lloyd allowed County to counter and it was only thanks to a soft strike from Kristian Dennis that allowed Ben Hinchliffe to comfortably gather and keep the score level.

Controversy reigned for the home fans on 24 minutes however as Scott Spencer went down inside the box from Josh Langley’s challenge but referee Steven Copeland booked him for simulation.

Eight minutes before the break, County had the best chance yet to find the net when Spencer headed a Jamie Milligan cross onto the roof of Fylde’s net before Andy Owens saw his header cleared off the line by Lloyd from another County corner.

The home side came out stronger in the second period and probably should have scored with the amount of chances they created.

Owens headed another corner wide before Spencer and Milligan caused major problems for the Fylde defence but to no avail.

Bradley Barnes was very unlucky not to do better when he volleyed Lloyd’s cross into the ground and over the County crossbar on 56 minutes and for the next 20 minutes County had more chances to claim victory that couldn’t be converted.

Spencer saw three efforts wasted within ten minutes before a speculative strike from Chris Churchman sailed high over the Fylde bar.

County’s best chance came with 12 minutes to go when Hinchliffe pulled off a fine save to deny Dennis a certain goal and Spencer could only fire the rebound against Josh Langley and wide.

But it was former County front man Rowe who almost stole the show when he latched on to Barnes’ through ball only to race into the box and shoot inches wide from a tight angle.

Fylde’s next game is at home to Stalybridge Celtic on Saturday afternoon.  Kick-off is at 3pm.
