AFC Fylde’s youngsters will embark on another FA Cup adventure of their own this evening as they welcome Witton Albion for an FA Youth Cup First Qualifying Round tie where both sides will be looking to better what they did last season.

It’s just a few days before the First Team begin their FA Cup campaign and there is no better way for these youngsters to put themselves forward for a chance of moving up to training (and possibly playing) with the First Team later this season.

Joey Mullen is a prime example of this. Because of his sparkling performances against Skelmersdale United and tonight’s opponents in last season’s competition he was rewarded with no less than ten appearances, including three starts, for the First Team throughout the course of last season. He repaid that favour with a couple of goals and became the club’s youngest ever goal scorer in December 2013.

Last season the Youth Squad reached the Second Qualifying Round after being Skelmersdale United (4-2) and Witton Albion (3-0) at this same stage last season. They went on to face Wrexham Academy at The Racecourse Ground and even though they lost 6-0 they took away a lot of positives and well-wishes from their performance on the night.

This season, the lads have an even better chance at reaching the First Round Proper as, if they are successful tonight, they will host either Brighouse Town or Guiseley here at Kellamergh Park in the final qualifying round.

Witton will also have hopes of reaching that stage and getting some sort of revenge on The Coasters from last season’s result and will certainly be up for tonight’s game.

This is both side’s first game in this competition this season as both were given a bye from the Preliminary Round meaning the sides will be fresh and ready to hit the ground running this year.

Tonight’s game kicks off at 7:30pm at Kellamergh Park.  Entrance is just £2 for adults and £1 for concessions.  Please come along and show your support for the young Coasters.
