AFC Fylde Academy exited the FA Youth Cup at the Third-Round stage following a 3-0 defeat to Hull City Academy at Mill Farm.

Hull took the lead after 31 minutes when a long ball upfield was latched onto by Ronnie Kelly, who struck towards Charlie Clark’s near post and found the back of the net.

Kelly then added his and Hull’s second moments after the restart after Lucas Dawson flashed in a cross to the number nine waiting in the six-yard box, and he poked in at the last second before adding a third with his head 13 minutes later.

Starting in the Young Coasters side was striker Danny Ormerod, alongside Jesse Hailwood, Liam Muscart and Charlie Markland, who were all involved in the FA Trophy Third Round matchday squad.

With 18 minutes on the clock, neither side had got a foothold in the game, though there were half chances for Ormerod when he tried his luck from range but saw both efforts blocked on the way to goal.

However, the Tigers were clinical and pounced on the first opportunity that fell their way when a long ball upfield from Cameron Gray was latched upon by Kelly, who laced towards the near post and found the back of the net.

Although the Coasters found themselves behind, they were still well in the game, and they almost found an equaliser. Cullen Meadowcroft managed to poke a loose ball into the path of Kian Hope, who struck from 25 yards out and saw the effort deflect off a Hull City shirt and rattle the post.

Half-time: AFC Fylde Academy 0-1 Hull City Academy

With the Coasters looking for a response, the Tigers were deadly in their approach following the restart. Lucas Dawson matched his man up down the right and zipped a teasing cross into the six-yard box, where Kelly was waiting to poke in.

Adding a third 13 minutes later, another cross into the Fylde area was too high for the Coasters defence, and Kelly was there again to head in his and Hull’s third of the evening.
