AFC Fylde manager Dave Challinor believes his side can be masters of their own destiny as they approach the final stages of the season.

The Coasters have just 14 league games left to play, including several matches against fellow promotion hopefuls, starting on Saturday against in-form Alfreton Town.

“We are well aware that it’s going to be a difficult end to the season, but our destiny is in our own hands,” said Challinor. “We still have to play Nuneaton, Boston, North Ferriby and Harrogate and they are all at home. That allows us to have a direct impact on their results too.

“We have had a tough time recently with some up and down results and in all honesty, we haven’t helped ourselves. We have made mistakes and at times we have let ourselves down with indiscipline.

“The objective at the beginning of the season for most teams in this league is to win promotion and that hasn’t changed for us. We came into this league last season and probably overachieved so there is perhaps more expectation on us from our own supporters.

“At times people probably think games and results are a given, but we cannot afford to fall into that trap.”
