AFC Fylde star Stephen Crainey was delighted to net his first goal for the club in the 1-0 victory over Bradford Park Avenue on Monday night.

The former Blackpool defender crashed home a sensational long-range strike on the stroke of half-time to secure all three points as the Coasters returned to winning ways in the National League North.

Crainey said: “It was nice to get on the scoresheet. It took a slight deflection but we won’t mention that – I’m saying it was going in anyway!

“It was important to get back to winning ways more than anything. It’s nice to play well but that was just about winning the game and getting out of it with three points on the board. All our focus is on securing that play-off position as soon as we can really.

“I still think we can make that second place in the league. We will keep going until the end of the season and try and win our three remaining games and see where that takes us. Hopefully that will be enough if other results go our way too.

“We are under no illusion that it’s going to be tough but if we can get back to our best form for the rest of the season then I don’t see any reason why not.

“We have an away game at Tamworth coming up this weekend but if we go there, start the game well and put them under some pressure then I think we can get a victory.

“We are confident with the squad we have and even the boys that aren’t in the team are very good players so we have good strength in depth here.”
