Manager Dave Challinor spoke to Chris Park after Saturday’s game to give his thoughts on the tight FA Cup victory over Buxton.
It was great to win and great to keep our run going but I was disappointed with our performance if I’m honest. I said to the lads afterwards that we’ve played an awful lot better and they’ve set the standard themselves this year and I’d say we had a minimum of four or five of them who were not at their best today and that’s always difficult.
We knew it would be a difficult game and I suppose the biggest disappointment is that I know what that team can do and they had an opportunity to show a lot of people here today what we’re about and they’ve not taken that. But on the flip side it was a good game and we’re through to the next round so we’ll look forward to the draw on Monday.
It was a really good atmosphere in the ground today and that’s what you strive for, not just in cup games but in league games as well, but it was good to see so many people here. Like I said, the only disappointment really is that we didn’t show what a good side we are.
But I’ve asked them many times this year that we have to learn from our performances even in victory really and hopefully that’ll show them that there is still a lot of work to do and if we aren’t at it then games are going to be difficult. We need to get better and hopefully we’ll learn from that.
However, I felt we were never in any danger or at any point worried. Recently we’ve been fluent and looked really potent going forward and today, after a culmination of a lot of things, we weren’t today.
