AFC Fylde can confirm that captain and defender Alex Whitmore has joined fellow National League side Solihull Moors for an undisclosed fee.

Alex initially joined the Coasters in 2019 after spells with Bury, Chesterfield and Grimsby and quickly became an integral part of the setup at Mill Farm, which later saw him appointed Club Captain.

‘Whits’ regularly took the armband during the 2020/21 season and was made permanent captain at the beginning of the 2021/22 campaign.

A product of Burnley’s Youth Academy, Alex went on to make 141 appearances in the white of Fylde and was an important factor in the Club securing the National League North title last season.

On the same day that Alex lifted the National League North trophy at Bradford Park Avenue, the 28-year-old was deservedly awarded the ‘Community Foundation Player of the Year’ trophy at the 2023 AFC Fylde Awards dinner in recognition of his outstanding work in the Community.

As a Club, we would like to thank Alex for his countless contributions and outstanding leadership qualities – both on and off-field – during his time at AFC Fylde. Our sincere best wishes are with him on the next phase of his career at Solihull Moors.
