The AFC Fylde Youth Team secured a 5-4 victory over Nelson thanks to goals from Chris Clinch, Dean Ing, James Corbett and a Rob Hanslip brace.
It was a hard fought victory for the Coasters youth as they managed to overcome a Nelson side that took the lead early on, but Fylde came back and took all three points.
After a very last minute venue switch, the game kicked off 10 minutes late and Nelson took the lead on the half hour mark after a mazy run from their striker saw his shot sailed in to the top corner.
Fylde rallied well and after only being on the pitch a minute, Jordan Willder played a delightful ball into the box for striker Rob Hanslip to head in the equaliser past the oncoming Nelson ‘keeper. Hanslip made it 2 just before half time, this time with a header after a cross from the right wing. It was perfectly headed in the top corner of the goal and the ‘keeper again had no chance and the score before the break was 2-1 to the Coasters.
In the second half, The Coasters came out realising that the next goal was crucial however unfortunately for us a mistake allowed an unmarked Nelson midfielder to fire in unopposed from the edge of the area.
Straight from kick off Fylde took the lead again after good combination play from the two strikers Clinch and Hanslip after a Penalty appeal from captain Owen Futter was turned down.  Hanslip chased down the loose ball as everyone looked at the referee for a penalty and crossed supurbly for Clinch to finish from close range at the back stick.
Fylde now lead 3-2…cue chaos! Nelson then equalized to make it 3-3, and then took the lead with 10 minutes of the match to play after poor defending for The Coasters defence.
What happened next will be rememberd for a long time by all those involved.  A free kick on 85 minutes was played into the box for Dean Ing to head past the on rushing goalkeeper. 4-4.
The way it was going this would have probably been a fair result, however one final free kick, again the taker was Jake Anderson and again it was a perfect cross into the box, this time it was James Corbett who was on the end of it to make it 5-4 with near enough the last kick of the game. Cue celebrations!
It was a great game full of high quality entertainment and it’s a huge positive that The Coasters Youth Team came out on top.
