AFC Fylde’s Under 18’s are set to face Cambridge United on Wednesday 13th January in the FA Youth Cup Third Round at Abbey Stadium.

The game has been given the go-ahead by the FA, and will kick off at 6 pm. Should The Coasters progress past United on Wednesday evening, an away trip to Chelsea awaits them in the Fourth Round.

The third-round tie was originally due to be played in early December, but due to adverse weather conditions the fixture was postponed before a rearrangement was made for next week.

History was made when the young Coasters beat Category One Academy, Sunderland, in the previous round. Prior to that, they had beaten Stockport Town, Clitheroe, Hebburn Town and Morecambe.

Youth Team Manager, Conrad Prendergast, said: “We’re ready for a tough test next week. We are back on the training ground working hard so that we head into the game well prepared.

“The disruptions could have been enough to derail our season, but on every occasion, the lads have overcome each obstacle.

“It’s now a case of picking up where we left off against Sunderland. For the first time in the Club’s history, we are into the third round of the FA Youth Cup and that’s something that we are incredibly proud of, but we don’t want it to end.

“The Chelsea fixture in the next round is a huge incentive for the players to get through, play at a world-class stadium in Stamford Bridge and test themselves against the very best. First, though, we must prepare for the challenge against Cambridge”.

Match updates at the Abbey Stadium will be shown live across all AFC Fylde social media platforms.
