AFC Fylde have swooped to sign former Chorley midfielder Jack Dorney from Stockport Sports FC for an undisclosed fee. Dorney is no stranger to Fylde supporters as he scored the winning goal for Chorley in the 2011 Play Off Final against the Coasters to win promotion.
Fylde Boss Dave Challinor has now completed his transfer business with Dorney seen as the final addition to his squad ahead of the Evo Stik Premier Division campaign. “I’m delighted to be able to announce Jack as the latest addition to our first team squad from Stockport Sports FC. I would like to thank them in how they have handled the move, as they recognise Jack is ambitious and due to the unforeseen circumstances that resulted in them being demoted from the Evo-Stik league they haven't stood in his way and prevented him playing at a higher level. Jack again is someone who fits with our philosophy, he's a player who has and can play at a higher level, he's young, hungry, most importantly technically a very good footballer and a great lad.
We've tried on numerous occasions to get him to come and join us at our previous club but distance was an issue. We've known him for a long time from when he was a young lad who burst onto the scene at Bury FC when Colin and myself were senior pros there. At that time he was an out and out left winger that played with a freedom, was about 3 stone soaking wet and would go past defenders for fun. He still has that but has evolved as a player and gives us options to be able to play him in a central area where he played last season where he has quality and has the eye to pick a pass, create and score goals. He'll fit into our squad seamlessly, will be made to feel really welcome and adds more depth and strength to our competitive squad. We now have our squad in place and barring injuries I expect to carry these players into the first game away at Ilkeston. As a management team we have huge options and players know that they will have to perform to keep their places. We're under no illusions, players will have dips in form and during a long, hard season, everyone will be required between now and May if we're to be successful as a group and club.”
Stockport Sports Director Wayne Ashworth had nothing but praise for the player in his spell at Sports, now managed by former Aston Villa player Peter Withe. "Jack is a great lad, and a quality player. He has been absolutely 1st class since he arrived at the club, both on and off the pitch. Jack is very professional in his approach and has been a great part of the squad. Jack has the opportunity here to play two leagues higher, and we would not stand in anyone's way should they want to take that opportunity. Everybody at Stockport Sports wishes Jack all the very best for the future, he is a quality player, a quality lad, and is joining a great club in AFC Fylde".
Dorney was a second half substitute for the Coasters in this week’s impressive 6-0 win over N Power League Two side Accrington Stanley XI and opened his account with the sixth goal.
