AFC Fylde Boss has confirmed that verteran striker Lee Thorpe is leaving the club but admit’s that it’s been a difficult decision to let the experienced forward go. “ There has been rumours flying around about Thorpey and his situation at the club. He was left out of games recently primarily for one reason and that was budget, I have a budget to stick to and any changes I wish to make need to fall within that and he is one of the bigger earners in the squad. “
The new Fylde boss was keen to stress that Thorpe has been the ultimate professional during his time with the club and wished the striker well whatever he decides to do next. “ Thorpey is very experienced, a great lad and it was a difficult conversation to have with him. He has openly admitted that at this level the demands of this division are to be able to play Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday most weeks that's without training and although he still has the desire and drive to do this, his body wont allow him to. He is currently considering his options of what he wants to do next but in the short time we've been here, he's been exactly what i expected in terms of his attitude and professionalism as a former full time player and in other circumstances, things may well have been different. I wish him well in whatever avenue he decides to take next”.
Thorpe joined the club in the summer after being released from Fleetwood Town and made 13 starts for the Coasters this season scoring 7 goals.
Everyone at the club thanks him for his efforts and wishes him well for the future.
