Club History

Kirkham & Wesham FC can trace their roots back to the early 1900s, but it was an amalgamation between Wesham FC and Kirkham Town in the late 1980s that really set the club on the path to its present stature, and silverware winning days.

Seven times winners of the West Lancashire League Premier Division in recent seasons, the club won four titles in a row between 2003 and 2007. They have also won the coveted Richardson Cup on five occasions (1999, 2000, 2001, 2005 and 2006), as well as three consecutive Northern Inter-Counties Cup Finals between 2005-2007, and four Lancs Amateur Shield victories between 2001-2006.

Having won six West Lancs League titles in seven years the club purchased land behind the Birley Arms public house and hotel in Kellamergh, a district ofWarton some 3.8 miles from their previous local council owned home inCoronationRoad, Kirkham in 2005 and began to develop the facilities which would enable them to move up the football pyramid. Facilities at the newly named KellamerghPark were completed at the end of the 2006-07 season and the club were admitted into the NorthWest Counties League.

Now, with more than £150,000 having been invested into their new facilities at their idyllic location, Kirkham & Wesham are keen to carry on where they left off in the West Lancashire League and have already taken steps to secure their long term future by asking the authorities to sanction a change of name for the club to AFCFylde in time for the 2008-09 campaign. During the summer of 2007 the club changed its club colours from all blue to all white and will play in change colours of all red during the 2007-08 season should they have to.
